Ahh life

We have moved in to our house in AK and that was a total crazy mess. We made the drive from MD(my IL's house) to Fort Rich in 7 very very long days. I had made reservations in the post lodging for 2 nights on the army side then 5 nights on the af side. Well we arrive only to find out our first room not avaliable. So we have to go off post and look for a room after already spending 10ish ours in the car we are all tired the kids were ready to run it was bad. Luckly we found a hotel but it was 3x the cost of a room 2x the size on post. The next night we go to the on post hotel and love that we can finally spread out and get some alone time for each person. We explore post a bit and get some food from the commissary so we dont have to eat fast food another night. Monday morning we head right to the housing office and get the best news they have a house for us. We drive over and look at the house and decide to accept it but it does need a major cleaning so we get all set up to move in on wed. The greatest thing becuase we can get out of the hotel and start putting life back to normal.
A weeek after we move in our stuff finally arrives and the unpacking begins. We find that boxes are not label right, parts are missing. It takes us 2 weeks to get all the boxes unpacked and the house looking almost right. This house is much larger than any home we have lived in so needless to say we have lots of shopping that needs to be done so we dont have full walls that are empty or rooms that have partial furniture. It will take a few months to be fully moved in but since this will be home for 3 years that time is not really that bad.
We knew moving here that the unit Rob was going to would be deploying soon. Once he got to a unit we find that he will be gone before Christmas then as the weeks have gone on we find its closer to leaving before December most likely right around Thanksgiving. While we are sad he is leaving again we are happy the deployment will be the first year here and hopefully we will have 2 full years to explore as a family. I am ready for the deployment to start so it will be over with, the kids know they are leaving and are not acting like its a big deal but we will see once dad is gone.

Hi!

Where to start? My name is Katie. I am a SAHM to 2 wonderful, crazy, boys who drive me up the wall daily but I would never trade it for well anything. I have been married for 7 years and my husband is in the Army. No it was not the plan when we got married but after months of trying to survive with just a high school diploma my husband decided to join so we could leave our hometown and have better lives then we felt we could have there. This is the life I am sure I was meant to have, even if I don’t know what I want to do when my kids are grown I know I was meant to be an Army wife and a mom. We have lived at 3 post and are weeks away from moving to our new one. ALASKA! Me the girl who always wanted to travel is finally getting far away from home with my kids and husband. This will truly be an adventure. We have yet to get our orders, set up the movers, and get passports. NOTHING has been done but we leave in a few weeks. Yeah I know I have not lived in my hometown for 6 years but we have always been able to jump in the car, drive and be home in 2 or less days. We have had many crazy things happen since joining the military but nothing compares to packing up everything we have taking our kids away from the only home they remember and moving. If we want to come home it will only be on a plane or a week long car ride. Not something you can do on the spur of the moment but I am sure I will try just once while living there. This move will test me as a mom, my oldest was almost 2 when we moved to NC and we are only 4 hours from “home” so we see family pretty often. Am I excited? HECK YEAH! I cant wait to take my guys exploring they love being outside and many days here its just to hot but in Alaska I just don’t see many days when I have to tell them sorry boys its to hot. Yeah it will get cold but we can add layers to help that and they have never really experienced lots of snow so it will be fun. Well that’s my life right now. I plan on this being my place to share and hopefully I remember every day to post.
